Ashwagandha is an adaptogen: a category of herbs which many have begun referring to as ‘super herbs’ for their supposedly endless health benefits. Its most celebrated impact is the enhancement of the bodies’ ability to respond to stress. Although Soviet Union researchers first coined the term adaptogen in the 1940s, and ashwaganda has been used for centuries in the Ayurvedic healing tradition, this herb has become increasingly popular in the United States in recent years.
