Five Hand Reel was a Scottish/English/Irish Celtic rock band of the late 1970s that combined experiences of traditional Scottish and Irish folk music with electric rock arrangements. The members of the band were Dick Gaughan (born 17 May 1948), Bobby Eaglesham (1942–2004), Tom Hickland (1948–2020), Barry Lyons (b. 1950), Dave Tulloch and later Sam Bracken. These recordings were made for John Peel on BBC 2. The website https://peel.fandom.com/wiki/Five_Hand_Reel gives the details as: Recorded 25 May 1977 – first broadcast 3 June 1977 – repeated 30 December 1977. However, it also lists a couple of different tracks, despite being the band’s only BBC recordings for that year. So there’s some confusion, but I have reasonable confidence in the details here being right. 🙂
