Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was detained by police before being released prior to his team’s season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After the incident, the 30-year-old made his way to the Hard Rock Stadium and scored a touchdown in a 20-17 win.
“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police,” said a Dolphins statement, external.
“He has since been released. Several team-mates saw the incident and stopped to offer support.
“Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”
A video on ESPN showed Hill being laid on the ground and handcuffed by police.
After the match Hill said he did not know why officers had done so.
“Wasn’t disrespectful because my mom didn’t raise me that way. Didn’t cuss. Still trying to figure it out,” he said.
