I recently came across my father’s original contract of employment with the @BBC —signed on the 10th of June, 1960

His annual salary? £1,000 a year (about $1,200)

But what really caught my eye was a clause stating that the “masculine gender shall include the feminine.” A small but telling detail that reflects the language—and thinking—of that era

He went on to spend 27 years at the BBC, and this document is now a cherished piece of both personal and employment history

It’s fascinating to see how much has changed—and what hasn’t—when it comes to how we work and how contracts are written

Definitely something I’ll be keeping
