The BBC’s handling of a Gaza documentary has damaged its claims of impartiality, says chair Samir Shah, blaming internal failures.
The documentary was pulled after it emerged that its 13-year-old narrator was the son of a Hamas official. Shah said oversight failures within both the BBC and production company Hoyo Films were a “dagger to the heart” of the corporation’s credibility.
Director General Tim Davie admitted a “serious failing” but defended the BBC’s overall trustworthiness. An internal probe is underway, with pressure mounting on senior BBC figures over the controversy.
