An ancient legend in Galicia, Spain, tells of nine medieval bishops who made vows of poverty in the monastery of Santo Estevo. After their death, their nine rings were believed to have miraculous healing powers.
For centuries there was a pilgrimage to the monastery to heal all kinds of diseases. However, over time the rings were lost without trace and they became little more than a myth.
Centuries later, authour María Oruña researched these legendary rings, and used them as inspiration for her novel The Forest of the Four Winds. In an extraordinary turn of events, in almost exactly the location María had described in her story, an astonishing discovery was made that could turn legend into reality.
