Elise Mertens (three) and Hsieh Su-wei (four) have seven Grand Slam doubles titles between them
Venue: All England Club Dates: 28 June-11 July
Coverage: Live across BBC TV, radio and online with extensive coverage on BBC iPlayer, Red Button, Connected TVs and mobile app. Full details here

Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens won the Wimbledon women’s doubles title, while the Croatian pair of Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic claimed the men’s crown.

Hsieh and Mertens survived two Championship points in the second set as they beat Russia’s Elena Vesnina and Veronika Kudermetova 3-6 7-5 9-7.

Mektic and Pavic overcame Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 6-4 7-6 (7-5) 2-6 7-5 in their final.

The top seeds triumphed for the first time as a team at a Grand Slam.

Success at the All England Club was their eighth title together in 2021.

For Pavic, it was a third major victory after the 2018 Australian Open with Oliver Marach and the 2020 US Open partnering Bruno Soares.

Earlier on Saturday, Belgian Mertens claimed her second Grand Slam title of the year following her doubles success at the Australian Open.

It is a third Wimbledon doubles title and fourth Grand Slam win for Hsieh, of Chinese Taipei.

Kudermetova, 24, and Vesnina, 34, failed to take two opportunities to seal victory when serving for the title at 5-4 in the second set and their opponents took full advantage as they claimed successive breaks to level the match.

Hsieh, 35, and Mertens, 25, appeared to have completed an impressive turnaround after breaking serve in the eighth game of the deciding set for a 5-3 lead – but they too were unable to serve out the contest.

They prevailed 9-7 in a tense finale, however, which also saw the Russians serve for the title at 7-6 in the third.

Victory ensures Mertens will return to number one in the women’s doubles rankings on Monday.
