Charlie Tear enjoyed a debut unbeaten half century as Scotland earned a comfortable eight-wicket win over United Arab Emirates in Dubai.

The 19-year-old opener finished 56 not out chasing down a modest 133 in the World Cup League 2 contest.

George Munsey made a rapid 37 and Brandon McMullen reached 39 as Scotland got to 137-2 in the 24th over.

The hosts were all out in 45 overs as brothers Brad and Scott Currie shared five wickets between them.

Sussex batter Tear replaced Andy Umeed, who suffered a broken finger in the opening defeat by Canada, and put on 42 for the first wicket with Munsey, who hit three sixes from his 26 balls.

Tear was dropped at midwicket during an 85-run stand with McMullen and made the most of that reprieve to end a memorable day with his second six.

Put in to bat first, UAE were 63-5 in the 23rd over, with Tear involved in an early runout for captain Muhammad Waseem, before an unbeaten 45 from Aayan Afzal Khan provided some resistance.

Brad Currie posted figures of 3-21, with younger sibling Scott taking 2-16.

“Getting my first fifty for Scotland is really special,” Tear told Cricket Scotland. “To get the win so emphatically as well, it’s really pleasing for the whole group.”

Munsey added: “The bowlers did a superb job up top. It’s never easy here to hit your lines and lengths straight away, but Brad, Saffy (Safyaan Sharif) and Scott all bowled really nicely and the spinners did their thing in the middle of the innings.

“It was awesome to go out there with Teary and chase down their score so quickly, and we had some fun out there. I thought Charlie did really well, showed just pure class throughout his innings, and saw us home finishing with a lovely six.”
