Sydney Sixers wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy has said she injured her hand in a “gory” incident while separating her fighting dogs at her home.
The Australia international had to have surgery and was a late withdrawal from her side’s Women’s Big Bash League game against Sydney Thunder on Sunday.
The 33-year-old said she was bitten after putting her hand between her two Staffordshire bull terriers.
“The positive is there was no bone, tendon damage, or a rupture,” she said.
“I think there was an artery involved which probably made it look more like a crime scene than it needed to be. It was quite gory.
“When I pulled my finger out initially, I thought I was in strife. But it’s all gone smoothly at the moment.”
Healy posted a picture of herself with a bandaged hand on social media on Sunday, saying she appreciated “all the love” from supporters and was watching Sunday’s game from home.
Cricket Australia say she is a doubt for the rest of the WBBL season but Healy is hopeful of returning to action before the end.
“I’d say it’s shorter term more than long term at the moment,” she said.
Without Healy, the Sixers fell to a 42-run defeat by the Thunder.
The Sixers have 12 group games left and any possible games in the knockout stages.
