Barbarians: (38) 60
Tries: Levy (3), Daley-Mclean, Hunt (2), Lloyd, Peat, Pam, Griffin Cons: Daley-Mclean (5)
South Africa: (0) 5
Tries: Malinga

The Barbarians women’s team put on a dominant display to defeat a South Africa women’s XV 60-5 in front of a record 29,581 fans at Twickenham.

The match kicked off at 14:30 GMT having been moved up from 17:15 GMT after the men’s Barbarians match against Samoa was called off just 90 minutes before kick off following a Covid outbreak in the Barbarians camp.

Sarah Levy of the United States scored a hat-trick and England’s Natasha Hunt scored twice as the Barbarians registered 10 tries in total.

Many of the players arrived at the stadium only half an hour before the revised kick-off because of the late change to what was intended to be a Barbarians double-header.

But the star-studded Barbarians started quickly, scoring six tries in an entertaining first half to lead 38-0.

England’s World Cup-winning captain Katy Daley-Mclean, playing in her final match, was one of the stars of the show. The 35-year-old fly-half was named player of the match thanks to an inspired display that included one try and four conversions.

Natasha Hunt scored two of Barbarians’ 10 tries

Ireland’s Ciara Griffin, 27, who was also making the final appearance of her career, scored the Barbarian’s last try.

Ayanda Malinga scored a great individual try late on for the Springboks to ensure they got on the scoresheet.

Men’s match off after six Covid cases

The men’s Barbarians was called off because of six Covid-19 cases in the Barbarians camp.

The RFU said four players and two members of staff had tested positive.

“We appreciate that this is an extremely disappointing situation for the many fans due to attend, but the safety of all members of both teams is our priority,” the RFU said.

The match against Samoa was to be former Ireland, British and Irish Lions and Leinster full-back Rob Kearney’s final game.

“All of our players are absolutely devastated they were unable to play today in front of an amazing and passionate crowd,” the Barbarians wrote on Twitter.

“Despite the recent positive Covid tests, we had a fit 23 today who all tested negative this morning. They were ready and keen to take to the pitch.”
