Carolina Panthers have re-signed quarterback Cam Newton 18 months after he was released by the franchise.
The 32-year-old, a former NFL most valuable player, was a free agent after being released by the New England Patriots before the season started.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr has agreed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Cleveland Browns released Beckham, 29, after his father’s Instagram post criticising quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Newton spent nine seasons with the Panthers and led them to the 2016 Super Bowl before his release.
His return comes as starting quarterback Sam Darnold faces four to six weeks out with a shoulder injury.
Newton has 139 NFL starts and is the competition’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 70, including 12 for the Patriots last year in 15 starts.
He replaced Tom Brady at the Patriots in 2020, but had a mixed debut season and never quite found form.
Beckham started his NFL career at the New York Giants as a first-round draft pick in 2014 and his one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys instantly became one of the most famous in history.
He reached 200 career receptions quicker than any receiver in the game and signed a $95m contract extension with the Giants in 2018 before being traded to Cleveland just seven months later.
Beckham has not registered a touchdown so far this season and the Browns released him after a viral video posted by his father on Instagram claimed Mayfield was not throwing the ball to his son.
