Chantelle Cameron inflicted a first professional defeat on Katie Taylor in Dublin in May

Ireland’s Katie Taylor says defeating Chantelle Cameron in a highly anticipated rematch in Dublin “would be one of the best wins in my career”.

Undisputed light-welterweight champion Cameron inflicted a first professional defeat on Taylor, 37, in Dublin in May.

England’s Cameron triumphed on a clear points decision and the pair will face off in a rematch on 25 November.

“I’m definitely looking forward to the revenge, I guess, and making things right,” said Taylor.

“A lot of people are doubting me. I love going into these fights and people are doubting me. I think this could be one of the greatest nights of my career.

“No other fight to me would have made sense. Straight away we were looking for the rematch and it would have been a killer for me if I didn’t get this chance.”

Olympic champion Taylor had established herself as one of the greats in the sport but was handed her first pro defeat by Cameron, 32.

Taylor says she was below par in her homecoming bout.

After a first professional defeat in her 23rd fight, Taylor said she processed the loss quickly and she had to “get up and get on with things”.

“The preparation has been a lot different. I feel a lot better going into this fight,” she added.

“I feel in top form right now and I am looking forward to showing my best on the actual night. I think everyone could see that I definitely wasn’t at my best in the last fight so I’m looking forward to getting things right for the next one.

“I feel like this camp has been very, very different. The next fight is always the most important fight. My mindset is completely the same.

“I’m very grateful that I have this opportunity. I have a second chance to make things right again, so I’m very grateful and very excited for it.

“I definitely feel like I am a better boxer than the fight before. Hopefully I can showcase what I can do on the actual night.”

‘I’ll retire at the right time’

At 37, questions will naturally be asked about Taylor’s future in the sport, especially if she loses the rematch with Cameron on her home patch.

However, Taylor was bullish in her response and stated: “I’m not thinking that this fight could be my last fight.

“I’m not thinking of any other outcome other than a win. Any other outcome is not entering into my mindset.

“I feel very fresh and very good in the gym right now, so I know that I have plenty more fights left in me.”

Taylor added that she will “retire at the right time” and when she feels like the time is right.

“I feel good and I have no intentions of hanging up the gloves right now,” she said.

“Obviously I can’t do this forever but retirement never came into my mind. I know I have to perform well on 25 November.

“This is a must-win fight for me, but it is never good for any fighter to be thinking of retirement going into a fight.

“You can always make that decision after a fight, but it’s not a good time to be thinking of retirement a few weeks before the biggest fight of your career.”
