Eilish McColgan just fell short of her mother’s Scottish record with a new personal best in The Ten 10,000m race – but met the Olympic qualifying mark.
McColgan was third in 30 minutes 58.94 seconds, behind Americans Elise Cranny and Karissa Schweizer in California.
She now has the second best time for a Scot, with Liz McColgan’s 1991 time of 30:57.07 still the record.
The 30-year-old’s run was almost 30 seconds under the time set by British Athletics for participation in Tokyo.
The British record is the 30:01.09 set by Paula Radcliffe in August 2002.
Meanwhile at the same meet, Marc Scott went second on the UK all-time list over 10,000m behind Mo Farah. His time of 27:10.41 was also a Tokyo qualifying standard.
