England batter Joe Root and all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt have been shortlisted for the 2023 ICC Awards.

Yorkshire’s Root has been nominated for the Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year.

Sciver-Brunt has been shortlisted for the Women’s Cricketer of Year award and is also nominated for the Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year.

England’s left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone is also among the nominees for the Women’s T20 Cricketer of the Year.

Former Test captain Root scored 787 runs at an average of 65.58 in 2023.

He played a key role in England’s drawn Ashes series, ending the year with two centuries and five half-centuries, including an unbeaten 118 in the first Test against Australia.

Joining Root on the four-person shortlist are India all-rounder Ravi Ashwin and Australian batters Travis Head and Usman Khawaja.

Sciver-Brunt is nominated for the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy after scoring 794 runs and taking nine wickets across all three formats.

She scored 393 runs in just five ODI innings, including centuries in two of the three 50-over matches in the multi-format Women’s Ashes.

Sciver-Brunt is up against Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu, Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr for the ODI award.

Athapaththu and Gardner are also nominated for the Women’s Cricketer of the Year award, along with Australia batter Beth Mooney.

Ecclestone makes the Women’s T20 shortlist after picking up 23 wickets, putting her in contention alongside Athapaththu, West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews and Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry.

However, no England player has made the shortlist for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy given to the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.

Head is included along with Australia’s World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins and Indian duo Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.

England fast bowler Lauren Bell has made the four-player shortlist for the Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year after taking 22 international wickets across all formats.
