Leaders of the fitness and leisure industries have criticised the government’s decision that they should not be allowed to reopen on July 4th, unlike pubs, hairdressers, cinemas and other venues.
It’s because they are classed as ‘close proximity’ businesses with environments in which the coronavirus is more likely to be passed on.
Swim England has also called on ministers to reconsider the decision. The government says gyms and pools should be able to open their doors in mid July.
Meanwhile in Scotland the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has given details of how lockdown rules will be eased.
