Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson has died at the age of 26, the NFL team has announced.
“We are profoundly saddened by the tragic passing of Jaylon Ferguson,” the Ravens said in a statement.
“He was a kind, respectful young man with a big smile and infectious personality.”
The cause of death was not given, with the Ravens saying Ferguson’s family asked for “your prayers and privacy during this trying time”.
Police said officers responded to a home in north Baltimore at approximately 23:25 on Tuesday and found Ferguson unresponsive and being treated by medics.
He did not regain consciousness and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said there were no signs of trauma or foul play. The medical examiner’s office will determine a cause of death.
Since being picked in the third round of the draft in 2019, Ferguson had played 38 games, including 10 starts, and recorded 67 tackles and 4.5 sacks in his three seasons in the NFL.
Ferguson and his partner, Doni, had two children.
Ravens legend Siragusa dies aged 55
Also on Wednesday it was announced that former Ravens star Tony Siragusa had died aged 55.
Known as ‘The Goose’, Siragusa won the Super Bowl with Baltimore in 2001 and had worked as an NFL TV analyst for Fox since retiring.
“He was a special person and clearly one of the most popular players in Ravens history,” Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said in a statement. “Tony’s larger-than-life personality made an enormous impact on our organisation and throughout the Baltimore community.”
Siragusa also played for the Indianapolis Colts.
Colts owner Jim Irsay said: “The Goose squeezed 200 fun loving years into 55! He was one of the most physically strongest players I have ever seen in 50 years.
“In Greece, they would ask one question at the end of one’s life; Did he have passion? In Tony’s case.. Yes He Did!!”
Siragusa also appeared in several episodes of the TV show The Sopranos playing Frankie Cortese, a driver and bodyguard.
