Paula Dunn has been appointed interim head coach at UK Athletics.
The governing body said on Tuesday that technical director Stephen Maguire had left, nine months before the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Britain’s former 200m world champion Dina Asher-Smith said she wants a “full explanation” for the “disappointing decision” over Maguire’s departure.
Former sprinter Dunn, 58, will lead the performance programme for next year’s Olympics and Paralympics.
She became UKA’s first female head coach when named Paralympic head coach in 2012.
She left that role in early 2022 before being appointed team leader for last year’s World Indoor Championships, World Championships and European Championships.
Britain won 10 gold medals at the Para Athletics World Championships in Paris in July and equalled their best haul of 10 medals, including two gold, at August’s World Championships in Budapest.
Dunn said: “The results from Paris and Budapest this summer were excellent and I want to ensure we keep providing world-class support in the approach to Paris and help every athlete perform at their very best.
“There isn’t a moment to lose, and I am excited to rejoin UKA and help the team to succeed.”
UKA chief executive Jack Buckner said: “Paula has a huge amount of experience in leading athletics and her track record in performance means she is the best person to oversee the performance programme towards Paris.”
