The life and career of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be showcased in a new two-part documentary on the BBC.
Created by BBC Sport and BBC Scotland, ‘Sir Alex’ will launch on 26 December on BBC iPlayer and feature first-hand accounts from the likes of Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Gordon Strachan and Sir Kenny Dalglish.
During his 27 years as Manchester United manager, the 82-year-old won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, five FA Cups and four EFL Cups, before retiring in 2013.
He previously led Aberdeen to the European Cup Winners’ Cup and European Super Cup, as well as winning three league titles, four Scottish Cups and a Scottish League Cup, making him the most decorated manager in British history.
An accompanying six-part podcast – Sporting Giants: Sir Alex Ferguson – will also be available on BBC Sounds from 26 December and on BBC Radio 5 Live across the festive period, with a bonus episode on 3 January.
BBC director of sport Alex Kay-Jelski said: “There are few more pivotal people in the history of British sport than Sir Alex Ferguson. So it is a honour for us to tell his story.”
In the podcast series, presented by Kelly Cates and Jonathan Northcroft, listeners will be taken even deeper into Sir Alex’s story, including a bonus episode with Celtic and Liverpool legend Sir Kenny talking exclusively about his lifelong rivalry and friendship with his fellow Glaswegian.
