London Spirit registered their first victory of the season in The Hundred men’s competition with a three-wicket win over Welsh Fire at Lord’s.
Despite Luke Wells’ entertaining 23 off eight balls, Fire wickets fell at regular intervals as they stumbled to 94-9.
Spinner Liam Dawson took an outstanding 3-10 for Spirit and – in a men’s Hundred first – seamer Daniel Worrall (1-16) bowled 10 consecutive dot balls at the start of the innings.
Spirit also struggled with the bat, slipping to 38-4 with Matt Henry taking 3-19.
However, Shimron Hetmyer (30 not out off 21) and Dan Lawrence (29 off 27) shared a 46-run partnership to ease Spirit’s nerves before Haris Rauf took two wickets in consecutive balls to give Fire some late hope.
But a composed Hetmyer finished it in style with a huge six over square leg.
