American Keegan Bradley shot the lowest round for the second day in a row at the Wells Fargo Championship to take a two-shot lead into the final day.
Bradley followed up his second-round five-under 65 with a 67 at TPC Potomac in Maryland for an eight-under total.
His nearest challenger is compatriot Max Homa, with India’s Anirban Lahiri and American James Hahn on four under.
Bradley, the 2011 US PGA champion, is chasing a fifth PGA Tour win – his last came in 2018 at the BMW Championship.
It is only the fourth time in his career that he has held the lead, or co-lead, after 54 holes, but has yet to capitalise on that position.
His day had started off slowly in cold and wet conditions, pairing two bogeys with two birdies on the front nine, but followed that up with three birdies coming in.
“When the conditions get like this, I find a sense of calm just because I’m sort of worried about other things, keeping my clubs dry and my bag dry,” he said.
“It sort of keeps me in the present.
“I just had a great time with my caddie, Scotty, we’re a good team and we did a lot of good things.”
England’s Matt Fitzpatrick is three under after a 71 while Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy is six shots off the lead on two under after a 68 that helped to make amends for his second-round 73.
Halfway leader Jason Day of Australia was three clear overnight but slipped down the leaderboard after a 79 that included two double bogeys and he is now on one under.
“Unfortunately, I just didn’t have my stuff,” he said. “I made a lot of errors out there and hitting into penalty areas.
“I’ve just got to get back to it and try and find some positives from the first two days going into [Sunday’s] round.”
