Caitlin Clark broke the WNBA’s single-season assist record as the Indiana Fever lost 78-74 at home to the Las Vegas Aces on Friday.
Clark went level with the mark of 316 set by the Connecticut Sun’s Alyssa Thomas last year in the second quarter, before passing that total in the third.
Rookie Clark finished with nine assists on the night for Indiana, raising her total to 321, and added 18 points.
The 22-year-old former college star has had a fine debut season in the WNBA and leads the league for assists and three-pointers made.
Her latest milestone came two days after A’ja Wilson broke the single-season points record, helping the Aces beat the Fever 86-75.
The 28-year-old Wilson, who is favourite to be named the WNBA’s Most Valuable Player for a third time, scored a game-high 27 points to take her past the previous record of 939 set by the Seattle Storm’s Jewell Loyd last year.
Wilson added another 15 points on Friday, with Chelsea Gray scoring a game-high 21 for Las Vegas, to reach 971 points for the season.
The Aces have three games left for Wilson to become the first player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 points in a season.
